Genealogical Proof Standard

The Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS) is the industry benchmark for genealogical research quality. Established by the Board for Certification of Genealogists, it ensures that conclusions are based on thorough research, complete citations, and sound analysis. At Ancestral Tapestry, every conclusion we present meets these five rigorous requirements.

1. Reasonably Exhaustive Research

We conduct a thorough search of all relevant sources, including those that might contradict our conclusions. No stone is left unturned in the pursuit of evidence.

2. Complete and Accurate Source Citations

Every piece of evidence is properly cited so that others can locate and verify the source. We follow established citation standards for genealogical writing.

3. Thorough Analysis and Correlation

We analyze each piece of evidence carefully, considering its origin, context, and reliability. Evidence is correlated to identify agreements and conflicts.

4. Resolution of Conflicting Evidence

When evidence conflicts, we resolve contradictions through sound reasoning and additional research. No conflicts are ignored or glossed over.

5. Soundly Written Conclusion

Our conclusions are presented in clear, well-reasoned writing that explains how the evidence supports the finding. Lineage society applications rest on this unassailable documentation.
